Frequently Asked Questions
What is CBD oil?
Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the many different compounds, known as cannabinoids, found in the cannabis plant. Cannabinoids are unique because they act on cannabinoid receptors that are part of the endocannabinoid system found throughout the body. The second most abundant compound in cannabis, CBD is not intoxicating and has none of the psychoactive properties of marijuana.
How is CBD made?
Nearly pure CBD is isolated from the other cannabinoids found in hemp oil. Hemp oil is extracted from the stalks and stems of cannabis using a chemical process and contains the full range of cannabinoids found in the plant. Oil may be obtained using solvents or with a non-toxic and non-flammable CO2 extraction method. Prevalent in the food industry, and “generally regarded as safe” by the FDA, CO2 extraction eliminates the risk of solvent residues in the final product.
Is CBD oil legal?
Yes – CBD oil obtained from hemp is legal, because the FDA considers hemp-derived cannabinoids to be food-based products, so their importation and consumption is not restricted. However, it is not legal to grow hemp in most of the US states. For this reason, a lot of companies producing CBD oil or other cannabidiol-rich supplements, source their hemp from countries where it is legal to grow it. Industrial hemp can be legally grown in most countries and CBD oil can be purchased in most of those countries.
If CBD is obtained from hemp, does it mean I will get high from consuming it ?
No – You will not get high from CBD oil. CBD (cannabidiol) is one of the two most prominent cannabinoids in the Cannabis plant, the other one being THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). Both of them occur in this plant naturally, and can be found in higher or lower concentrations, depending on the part of the plant we refer to.
CBD is not psychoactive, which means you cannot get high from cannabidiol-rich products. Conversely, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is a strong psychoactive substance which gets you stoned. As long as you consume products made of specially-bred industrial hemp plants, you shouldn’t experience any unwanted effects. Hemp contains little to no THC, while recreational cannabis can contain between 5% and 20% THC.
How is CBD oil obtained ?
Cannabidiol oil is obtained from hemp through a technique called CO2 extraction. We use hemp because it doesn’t contain THC, and we opt for this technique because it enables us to produce oil that yields the full spectrum of cannabinoids in the Cannabis sativa plant. Our extracts contain a multitude of cannabinoids with positive effects, as well as terpenes, minerals, fatty acids and vitamins. All these substances make our products nourishing and recommend them as dietary supplements.
Can CBD oil cure any condition ?
We produce CBD oil that is sold as a dietary supplement, so we’re not making any medical claims. However, we do encourage you to research this topic yourself, as there are trustworthy websites where you’ll find studies on the effects and benefits of cannabidiol in various conditions. We may refer to such studies here, but only to inform you about them. Our CBD products are not intended to treat, cure or prevent any disease although it is quite possible those suffering from any one or more of a variety of ailments could see benefit from taking CBD.
Is your CBD oil synthetic or natural ?
As said, we extract CBD oil from industrial hemp, so our products are all natural. Industrial hemp is naturally rich in CBD, so we use this plant to make sure the final product contains a multitude of useful compounds and no psychoactive substances.
Does CBD oil cause side effects ?
Hemp is considered generally safe, so there shouldn’t be any significant side effects of CBD, but we can’t rule them out as it really depends on how your body tolerates and adapts to these dietary supplements. We recommend to consult your physician before using any dietary supplement, including our CBD oil.
Are CBD products safe ?
CBD and the processes used by reputable companies enable the manufacture of a variety of safe CBD products. The CBDistillery ensures that its products are of the highest quality by consistently testing and using only non-GMO industrial hemp. All products manufactured by The CBDistillery are from hemp grown outdoors under natural sunlight with pesticide-free organic practices.
Why should I use Elixinol CBD oil instead of relying on cannabinoids from marijuana ?
Technically, cannabinoids from marijuana and cannabinoids from hemp are the same, meaning that they have the same properties. However, as previously explained in this FAQ, hemp contains very little to no THC. Perhaps just 10ths of one percent. Marijuana on the other hand is very high in THC (usually between 10% and 25%) and makes you high. This is why you should opt for hemp CBD oil if you intend to use it as a food supplement. If you take THC with CBD, the effects of THC will be diminished as CBD attaches to the same receptors in the endocannabinoid system.
How much CBD oil should I take ?
This really depends on which product you are using, how you use it and how your body adapts to it. We recommend starting with 1 drop per serving, once or twice a day and see if this dosage works for you. If it’s the first time you’re using a hemp oil supplement, we encourage you to discuss with your healthcare practitioner if you have specific questions.
What is a “Tincture” of CBD hemp oil ?
A tincture is a liquid made from a plant “extract.” A tincture typically contains a solvent agent such as alcohol to keep the plant extract in a usable liquid suspension. 100% Pure hemp oil is extremely viscous, sticky and difficult to dispense or use as a result. Elixinol uses coconut oil to form the basis of our hemp oil drops / CBD tinctures.
Where does Elixinol hemp come from ?
Elixinol hemp is produced from the specially hybridized organic hemp that we grow in Northern America and Northern Europe. The concentrated hemp oil extract that we produce from our own carefully selected growers provides the best balance of cannabinoids and highest purity cannabidiol.
Is Hemp the same as Marijuana ?
Hemp and marijuana are two types of cannabis that are genetically distinct and differ in both cultivation, chemical properties, and use. Hemp is grown and cultivated for fiber and seed to produce a variety of products including foods, oils, rope, and fabrics. Marijuana is cultivated to yield high levels of the psychoactive ingredient THC, concentrated heavily in the flowers and buds. Marijuana is bred to have THC levels that can exceed 20% as opposed to hemp which has less than .3% THC and no psychoactive properties.
Will I get High ?
CBD does not have any of the psychoactive properties associated with marijuana and will not impair the user or get them “high.” Industrial hemp that has less than 0.3% THC content can yield high-quality CBD that is 99% pure.
Will I pass a drug test ?
Many CBD products have no THC in them at all, and all CBD products derived from industrial hemp have less than 0.3% THC. Many factors determine whether a person can pass a drug test, making them unpredictable, but the trace amounts of THC found in CBD products is very minuscule.
How is it Taken ?
CBD can be taken orally by placing it under the tongue, allowing it to dissolve and be absorbed, or ingested in capsules and edibles. CBD can also be added to ointments and lotions for topical use or inhaled using a vaporizer. The method of ingestion plays a significant role in how quickly CBD enters the system, with vaporizing being quickest and most efficient.
What is the difference between Isolate and Full Spectrum ?
Products that are Full Spectrum contain CBD as well as other cannabinoids, while CBD Isolate is 99% pure isolated CBD. Cannabinoids affect every individual differently and determining which product is most effective depends on personal needs and preferences.
